Finally, some good concerts.
We've been plagued by a long running string of concerts
that either sucked or
suffered from awful sound. Well, all that changed with the
Mighty Mighty Bosstones visit back in July to the Showbox SODO.
Unbelievably, they sound the same as they did 15 years ago, full
of energy and able to put on a great show. I honestly
can't figure out how Dickey can still sing with a throat full of
gravel. Amazing.
My favorite Bosstones albums are:
That was all well and good, then Mastodon and
Dethklok came to town. Despite playing at the larger venue
of WAMU theater, the sound was awesome, and both bands played
good, full sets. Mastodon is one of the tightest bands
I've seen live, seeming to thoroughly enjoy playing their music,
if somewhat ignoring the audience in the process. They
played their new album Crack the Skye in its entirety, followed
by a track or two from their other albums. It was a great
set. Next up was Dethklok, the metal band
from Cartoon Network's
Metalocalypse. This is the second
time we've seen Dethklok, and the sound of this show was much,
much better. Brendon Small and the mighty Gene Hoglan put
on one helluva show, and it was nice to actually be able to
enjoy it this time! If this tour comes to your town, you
could definitely find worse ways to spend your money.
Since Wamu Theater is adjacent to the
Seahawks' stadium, the beer was sold at stadium prices.
Not cool!
All of the Mastodon albums are great. Dethklok is the
world's
7th largest economy, so obviously their albums are good
too...
